Something For Everyone, New York Attractions

Posted: September 9th, 2010 | Author: Adrianna Noton | Filed under: Travel & Leisure | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

According to several sources, New York attractions are one of the biggest destinations for vacationers again this year. Many years in a row this city has brought families and couples from all over the United States and the world to its big buildings, Broadway shows, museums and statues. There is something for everyone to see and do in the Big Apple.

Even if one tired, they couldn’t miss the tallest building, the Empire State Building and it’s a ‘must-see’ on nearly everyone’s list. There are stairs, escalators and elevators to carry a person to the top and the observation deck and its generous view of the city. For those who do not care for the height, they could shop at one of the many little shops and boutiques on the main floor. If they are not shoppers, they will have to vacate the building for safety precautions; no one is allowed to stand around the building.

Millions of people have seen Times Square on television and in movies and when they arrive at the famous landmark, they can’t believe how big it is and how packed with people and things to do. There are so many shops, diners and theaters that one could spend an entire day wondering around Times Square if they wanted to. There is the red metal fence that is depicted in a lot of television and movies where everyone seems to stop to get their picture taken and then there are lots of restaurants and delis to fill the lunch or dinner hour.

The entire family could get dressed up and take in a Broadway show. There are the old standards that have been on Broadway for many years, many of them upbeat musicals that kids would love. And then there are the newer plays written by some of today’s best talents. They are the plays that make people think and take notice of the world around them. One could even stand next to the back stage door and get an autograph or two if so inclined.

Ellis Island is a really special place, especially if a family’s relatives got their start there. It is a great piece of history and will inspire everyone to be a little nicer to those who don’t know the customs or language of America. There are large boats that shuttle people back and forth to the island and there are knowledgeable tour guides who can tell visitors everything there is to know about the island and its purpose.

The great Niagara Falls is not within walking distance, one must drive a short distance outside of the city to get there but it is worth the trouble. It is a beautiful waterfall and there are plenty of rain-ponchos on hand so no one will get wet. Pictures taken at the falls often feature a rainbow and sometimes a wedding or two is taking place depending on the day. A small boat will take tours of people up to the falls at the bottom and then they could walk behind the falls for a little ways. There is a view from the top of the falls and one from the bottom of the falls. There is also a souvenir shop.

The Statue of Liberty is in the harbor keeping watch over the harbor of the city. There is several ways to get to see her and some of the people who want to visit with her take a helicopter ride out there. With this type of transportation, they also get a bird’s eye view of all the other goings on in the city.

One of the most memorable and endearing sites of the many New York attractions is Ground Zero. They are currently building on the site and there are several make-shift memorials in addition to a larger memorial erected the year after September 11, 2001. Next year will be the tenth anniversary of this Nations largest terrorist attack on our soil and people come from all over the world to view what once was. It is an honor and a privilege to leave a flower or a note on the fence just so people remember and know they are still being thought of.

An Introduction To Pet Training With Positive Reinforcement

Posted: September 8th, 2010 | Author: Adrianna Noton | Filed under: Travel & Leisure | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

There are many reasons to begin a training regime with your pet. You may want to stop an animal’s bad behavior such as clawing or chewing the furniture. You may want to keep him under control in social situations. Or you may want to teach him to perform tricks on command. In any case, the animal will benefit both from the mental exercise required and from the time and attention you give him. The most satisfying form of pet training uses positive reinforcement.

Animals are naturally keen to perform actions that they know will lead to positive outcomes. Positive reinforcement means rewarding your pet for good behavior, rather than punishing him for bad behavior. The rewards most commonly used in training are enthusiastic praise and a tasty morsel of food.

Although you may not be aware of it, you have probably already trained your pet using positive reinforcement. If your dog or cat stands near a door and barks or meows, and you open the door for them, they will associate their actions with the reward of being let in or out. The next time they want you to open the door, they will repeat the same behavior in anticipation of getting the same reward.

To train pets to do what you want them to do, you’ll need to get them to perform actions in response to commands. Decide on a specific desired behavior and think of a cue word to prompt it. Single syllable commands such as ‘down’ or ’shake’ are easier for animals to understand than two word phrases like ‘lie down’ or ’shake hands’.

As soon as your pet performs an action in response to a command, reward him with enthusiastic praise and a tasty treat. Always give the reward before the animal engages in any other behavior. If you are teaching a dog to obey the command ’sit’, praise and feed him while he is still in a sitting position. If he moves first, he may think he is being rewarded for standing up.

To teach an animal to get off the bed or sofa, chose a simple command like ‘off’. When you find your pet sitting on the furniture, get a food treat and hide it in your hand. Stand over the animal, loudly and clearly say ‘off’ and gently push her to the floor. Immediately praise her and hold the treat to her mouth. Do this every time you catch her sitting where she’s not allowed. Eventually, she will jump off the furniture in response to your command, without the accompanying push.

When an animal has learned to reliably respond to the cue word, you can gradually stop rewarding her with treats. But do persist in offering praise and affection in return for good behavior. Dogs are eager to please their owners and generally require no other motivation. Depending on their individual personalities, and the extent to which they have bonded with their owners, some cats and birds will also continue to obey commands once the food incentive is withdrawn.

Pet training can be frustrating at times. If the animal is distracted or tired, he may not perform as well as on previous occasions. Be patient and do not expect too much too soon. You should never resort to shouting or punishment. This will have negative consequences as your animal will come to fear you and be hesitant to engage in future sessions. If you make dog training Kelowna fun and give your pet plenty of positive feedback, he will look forward to learning new commands.

Training a puppy can be frustrating, dog training requires discipline and consistancy. When experiencing problems, consult a professional. Bark Busters offer a reliable and affordable service for house puppy training.

Sports Travel To The MEN Arena

Posted: September 4th, 2010 | Author: Ruth Smith | Filed under: Travel & Leisure | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

There are many venues in the UK that are synonymous with sports travel, such as Old Trafford for football and cricket, Wembley Stadium for pretty much every sport and Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium for football and rugby events. However there are few venues in the UK that can rival the Manchester Evening News Arena for such a wide variety of different sporting events.

The MEN is a gigantic indoor arena in Manchester that plays host to such an array of different sporting events, than any sports fan would find something taking place there to interest them.

One of the more popular events to take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena is wrestling from the WWE. Wrestling is a big business in the USA, and at least once a year the Superstars from the WWE travel to Manchester to perform for the UK crowd in either their Raw or SmackDown! events. Fans can see their idols, such as Triple H and John Cena, up close and personal without having to travel to the United States.

Another US favourite to take place at the MEN is Monster Truck racing. This larger than life sports event sees some of the legendary US monster trucks, such as ‘Bigfoot’ and ‘Gravedigger’, crushing a collection of cars live in the arena. Few venues are even large enough to accommodate such an event in the UK, and the Manchester Evening News Arena is one of them.

Other sports events often held at the MEN include boxing, where Manchester favourite Ricky Hatton has often fought for world titles.

Of course it’s not just sports travel events that makes the MEN Arena such a popular destination. The venue is also used for many concerts, ranging from pop music acts such as the X-Factor tour, to rock acts such as Nickelback.

Vacation Destinations – A Guide

Posted: September 4th, 2010 | Author: Greg Pierce | Filed under: Travel & Leisure | Tags: , | No Comments »

“We need to take a break from our busy lifestyle. When we talk about having a break, we are talking about relaxing, enjoying and just leaving all those pressure and emotional and physical and even spiritual stress. Isn’t it great to just be around your loved ones and friends and just chit chat and do certain things that you enjoy doing? This break should be something you took effort to plan and budget. Planning this should start on where you are going to spend that vacation. After all, it really is a vacation from your daily routine or existence.

There is nothing wrong with our daily routine but adding a spice to it would make your day bloom. This need not be a time to invest lavishly – unless you intend it to be as a lavish reward for yourself for some deep factors. What is more essential here is you discovered joy and contentment with the time spent with others in a special location. In planning exactly where to invest your vacation, choose a location exactly where there are distinct differences from the place exactly where you reside. When you are in America, you can still go to the other states since some states have other historical influence and natural sites not discovered inside your state. If you live in a sunny place, travel to a cold country where their culture is various from yours. Or if you’re from a cold or snowy location, then the tropics is for you.

Now, start thinking about a certain location and its culture and tradition. The more it is very various from your culture, the much better the fun you will have inside your vacation experience. Search the web for a historical view of a place you have planned.

It’s a great idea to have a concept of the place’s history and tourist websites to ensure that you won’t go into a culture shock. Another thing to think about in planning where to spend your holiday is to identify the availability of hotels, pension houses, system of transportation used, and hospitals. On the side, you are able to also check out the location of churches for your spiritual needs.

But you should also be aware about the places that are in a state of violence. As much as possible, avoid taking the risk of spending your vacation there. You can still have the chance to visit it someday when it’s already peaceful in that place. Wherever you go, make the most of it and have happy memories of it.

Whether you are headed east or the west, you can always get cheap flights to London, cheap flights to Philippines or any other prime tourist destination without leaving your desk. Book online now.
